Who are we?

We are Liberty Foundation Tanzania, a non-government organization led by well established, like minded individuals with just one goal; to empower and liberate the minds of young orphans and other unprivileged children through providing them with quality education and practical training.

We have come together as people who went through harsh life conditions but were able to make it in life against the odds, either through personal struggle or through help from other people. We intend to ensure that we assist as many children as possible to achieve their dreams through education and not to be helpless in life.

Meet Our Team

Deogratias Bwengye Rulangaranga.
(MBA Corporate Management, University of Dar es Salaam;
BA Economics, Makerere University Kampala (2003))
Chairman of the Board of Directors

Raised alongside the underprivileged, Deo has a lifelong commitment to supporting the needy. Born in Dar es Salaam, he attended a Catholic seminary that instilled in him a passion for service. He then gained practical knowledge at a Ugandan vocational school before earning an Economics degree from Makerere University.

For 15 years, Deo worked in five different banks, hoping to alleviate poverty by providing affordable loans. However, he found that strict banking policies and procedures, such as the need for audited financials, created barriers for the very people he aimed to help. Realizing he could not significantly change the banking sector, he founded this NGO, bringing together a diverse team to directly assist orphans and other individuals in need.

Moved by the vision of the LIBERTY FOUNDATION FOR CHILDREN, Denis joined the team to help make a positive impact on the lives of orphaned and underprivileged children in Tanzania.

Victor Michael Tesha
MBA Marketing – University of Dar es Salaam,
BA Social Sciences – University of Dar es Salaam
Board Member

Having lost his parents at a young age, Victor survived a difficult childhood by dancing at weddings for money. Despite immense hardship, he used these meager earnings to pay for his own education and care for his siblings, often going to bed hungry.

His perseverance led him to a successful career in banking, where he has worked for over 10 years, including as a managing director. Today, he runs LEEDS COMPANY LIMITED, a major consulting firm in Tanzania.

Driven by his past, Victor co-founded the LIBERTY FOUNDATION FOR CHILDREN. His mission is simple: to ensure no child endures the suffering he did. His deep understanding of finance and his personal history of overcoming adversity make him an invaluable asset to the foundation's goal of lifting orphans out of poverty through education.

Gulshan Ladha Saleh
MBA Corporate Management, Mzumbe University Dar es Salaam Advanced Diploma in Banking from IFM (Institute of Finance Management, Dar es Salaam)
Member

Gulshan, a native of Dar es Salaam, was orphaned at a young age, losing both parents while in secondary school. As one of nine children, she and her siblings received no support from relatives. Her 18-year-old sister took on the responsibility of raising them, struggling with a low-paying job.

Despite these hardships, Gulshan persevered. She worked as a salesperson to help support her family while still in school and later took on a full-time job after high school to assist her sister. This job at a non-bank financial institution launched her 24-year banking career, during which she successfully ensured all her siblings completed their education and achieved self-sufficiency.

Motivated by her past, Gulshan is committed to helping orphaned children avoid the trauma of feeling helpless. She brings extensive banking experience and a passion for charitable work to the LIBERTY FOUNDATION FOR CHILDREN, aiming to help as many children as possible rise out of poverty.

Dr. Zachariah Karemile Rulangaranga
PhD Essex University, Colchester, United Kingdom
MSc. University of Dar es Salaam)
Advisor

Raised in Kagenyi village, Dr. Rulangaranga overcame a challenging childhood after his father passed away. To pay for his primary school education, he mined tin during vacations. Although secondary education was free, he continued working to afford school supplies. His hard work led him to the University of Dar es Salaam, and he later earned his Ph.D. in 1986.

Motivated by his past, Dr. Rulangaranga vowed to help others. He founded the Karagwe Kanono Development Association (KAKADEA) in 1986 to fight poverty in his home district. He also personally paid for many students' education and provided housing for those moving to Dar es Salaam.

In 1999, he established Sinza High School to offer low-cost education, subsidizing the school with his own lecturer salary to ensure it was accessible to all. Now, at 71, Dr. Rulangaranga is starting an NGO to provide quality education and support for orphaned and underprivileged children, aiming to leave a lasting legacy by helping them reach their full potential.
